Manufacturability

The extent to which a product can be efficiently manufactured with maximum reliability.

Comments: Many products are very difficult to produce and are very often not designed to be mass produced. Sadly, only after a good number of failures and a host of frustrated employees have complained do many product designers finally consider easier, faster, and more reliable ways of manufacturing parts.

We urge product designers to work closely with engineering, production, tooling, and even operators when developing products that must later be produced in the thousands or millions. A coordinated effort can make an enormous difference to ultimate successful production.
